Yoga Therapy Training with Simon and Hasu from Marrickville Yoga Centre
Friday 13 – Sunday 15 November 2026
About this training
Simon and Hasu of Marrickville Yoga Centre (MYC) bring decades of yoga therapy expertise and insight to their teaching, classes, and practice. Yoga therapy sits at the heart of MYC.
Through this program, they will share what they have learned and how they have implemented and developed their yoga therapy program since the school opened in 2007.
Yoga therapy is highly effective in bringing balance to the body’s systems. The goal of the training is to break yoga therapy down and make it more accessible and simpler to understand.
Teachers who attend will gain insight into seeing the body and feeling the benefits of yoga as a therapy. You will also learn how to apply these principles in guiding others safely and effectively.
Our approach
Our approach to yoga therapy is about meeting people where they are when they are in front of us. Yoga therapy is for everyone.
Sometimes yoga therapy is not about what is “wrong” with a person or their body. It is simply about helping them feel better. It is about understanding what they need and how yoga can support, help, and heal each individual.
You will learn how to read people’s bodies, understand their individual needs, and support them through yoga therapy.
Simon and Hasu are so excited to bring this training to West End Yoga Centre and look forward to working with both teachers and students from Brisbane.

Friday: Back of the Body, Part 1
See + Feel
Friday 13 November 2026 | 5:00 pm – 7:30 pm | $120 inc GST
We don’t see the back of the body first when we look at a person. Because it is less visible, our understanding of it can be limited. Yet we often begin to recognise imbalances in the back body.
As we step into yoga therapy, we learn additional ways of seeing the body. Helping people begins with seeing clearly, then feeling the poses for ourselves so we can experience their effects in and on the body.
In yoga therapy, we observe without assumption and listen deeply, both to the body and to the person before us.
During this session we will:
- Explore a series of related poses
- Practise each pose
- Spend time in the poses to feel them and experience their effects
- Observe the poses on different bodies
- See how set-ups are modified to best support each body
- Engage in open discussion throughout the session
Saturday: Back of the Body, Part 2
Apply + Adjust
Saturday 14 November 2026 | 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm | $140 inc GST
This session gives you the tools to make yoga available to different bodies with different needs. We will explore how to adapt poses to meet each person where they are.
Yoga therapy is all about how the pose fits the person, not the other way around. In yoga therapy, the question is: What does this body need today? Rather than: How do I make this body achieve the classical pose?
We cannot adjust effectively if we cannot see clearly. When we can see properly, we can support and guide people more effectively.
During this session, we will:
- Explore a new series of related poses
- See the poses on different bodies
- Observe each body to understand what they need and how to support them
- Learn how to adjust the pose so it fits the person
- Practise teaching direction rather than shape
- Engage in open discussion throughout the session
Yoga therapy-informed teaching
Whether you want to better care for or support your students, integrate your understanding of yoga therapy into your classes, or are starting or refining a yoga therapy program at your school, this training will leave you with greater confidence in hands-on work, enhanced observational skills, knowledge of how to adapt poses, and the ability to approach people with an open mind, ensuring that the yoga fits the person.
When you can simplify how people experience yoga and find ways to bring it to those who might not otherwise have access, you create a profound, lasting impact for everyone involved.
