Student Development Program
A supported pathway toward a sustainable, informed Yoga practice.
As part of the Brisbane Yoga community, the Student Development Program is open to anyone interested in developing a consistent, resilient, and knowledgeable Yoga practice.
In the modern world, finding time to practise can be challenging. Yet it is through regular, daily practice that the deeper benefits of Yoga gradually reveal themselves. This program helps you establish a practice that fits realistically into your life.
Program Structure
The Student Development Program runs over one to three years.
- You may commit to one year at a time
- You can choose to complete 1, 2, or all 3 years
- There is no fixed starting point — you may join at any time
- Once enrolled, it is a one-year commitment
This structure allows flexibility while maintaining the continuity necessary for meaningful learning.
Year One: Building the Foundation
The first year focuses primarily on developing a daily self-practice.
Self-practice and the discipline to maintain it form the foundation of all learning and progression in Yoga. For this reason, strong emphasis is placed on establishing a practice that remains consistent regardless of age, experience, physical ability, or time constraints.
Even 10 minutes of daily practice is valuable — consistency matters more than duration.
What You Will Receive
Asana Programs
- 6 structured asana programs over the year
- Each program includes 5–6 sequences, focusing on different aspects of practice
- Sequences can be adapted to suit your available time and energy

- Designed for times when regular practice is not appropriate (e.g. illness, fatigue, recovery)
- Includes specific sequences such as immune-support practices
Workshops
- 6 in-person workshops held on Sundays
- Time: 8:00 am – 12:30 pm (with a short break)
- Each workshop explores a specific theme (e.g. hip movement in asana)
- One asana program and one supporting practice are given for the following 8 weeks
- Individual guidance on variations and prop use is provided
Ongoing Support

- Practice alongside fellow Student Development Program participants
- Access to Padlet, an online platform for reflection, learning, and weekend practice journaling
- A dedicated WhatsApp group for communication and support
- Personal guidance and questions throughout the year
- Monthly led practice on the third Sunday of each month with Jamie or Sylvia (recommended, not compulsory)
- A suggested reading list to deepen your understanding of Yoga
Continuing Beyond Year One
Students who complete the first year may choose to continue into the second and third years.
- Years Two and Three are discussed individually.
- These years become increasingly tailored to your interests, needs, and direction.
Students who choose not to continue in the Student Development Program in a formal capacity are still warmly supported in their ongoing practice.
As a studio, we value long-term, self-directed practice and are pleased to offer continued access to the space for self-practice outside class hours, so students can maintain and deepen what they have learned.
Access is available to students who:
- Have completed Year One of the Student Development Program
- Have demonstrated a commitment to regular self-practice
- Continue to attend classes at the centre every week
